Some people don’t want to wait to have their iPhone 3GS jailbroken until firmware 3.1; due to the iPhone Dev Team’s decision. Geohot, hacker and friend of the Dev Team, released his jailbreaking tool today which he calls purplera1n. Purplera1n is a full-blown jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS, including an installation of Cydia with it.

Normally I don’t make tools for the general public, and rather wait for the dev team to do it. But guys, whats up with waiting until 3.1? That isn’t how the game is played. We release, Apple fixes, we find new holes. It isn’t worth waiting because you might have the “last” hole in the iPhone. What last hole…this isn’t golf.

To get started, just head on over to Purplera1n.com and download the version for your corresponding OS. Or, read the entire post by geohot at his blog.

In other news, the iPhone Dev Team is striving users to not update to the latest 3.1 firmware on the 3G or 3GS as always, because it could break the hole ultrasn0w uses for injection and prevent you from unlocking in the future. Today they posted a demo of ultrasn0w unlocking a 3GS 3.0 firmware (courtesy of planetbeing).

Our ultrasn0w program uses the at+xlog crash as an injection vector of our unlocking payload — and it does so on the 3GS in exactly the same way as on the 3G! But this injection vector will be lost if you update to 3.1 using the official Apple IPSW, which updates the baseband. So stay away from official 3.1 IPSWs until we release the tools that let you update the firmware without updating the baseband.

The iPhone Dev Team have been busy as they are rolling out the updated jailbreaking and unlocking tools for 3.0. They have released PwnageTool 3.0 (Mac) so far, but will be releasing QuickPwn for Windows and Mac later on in the following days. The PwnageTool release supports jailbreaking of iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch 1G, and unlocking of iPhone 2G.

UPDATE: The Dev Team has just released a new version of redsn0w, the previous iPod Touch 2G only jailbreak, which now works on all devices (except for iPhone 3GS). According to the team, it has the same functionality as QuickPwn and will do as a replacement for now. This new redsn0w also supports unlocking of iPhone 2G, and ultrasn0w still is waiting for release (below).

According to the team, the iPhone 3G unlock is now known as ultrasn0w. Ultrasn0w is the new injection vector for the iPhone 3G, taking the place of the old unlock, yellowsn0w. Ultrasn0w works on all basebands and firmwares of the iPhone 3G so far. Click here to see a live demo of the first unlock using ultrasn0w, thanks to MuscleNerd.

They also are stressing that there is no unlock or jailbreak for the iPhone 3G S yet, the new Apple device just released earlier today.

You can download PwnageTool 3.0 or the new redsn0w at the iPhone Dev Team’s blog. We’ll update this post once the other tools are updated and released also.

You guys out there who have iPod Touch 2nd generations were waiting patiently for the jailbreak, redsn0w. The Dev Team released their beta “tethered redsn0w” which required you to be connected to a computer to reboot your iPod Touch. Many of you are still waiting for the untethered jailbreak so you can reboot and have a fully functional jailbroken iPod Touch 2G. The Dev Team had been hoping to hold onto this full iPod Touch 2G jailbreak until the next version of the iPhone came out.

Guess what, that day has finally arrived! A little while ago, the iPhone Dev Team posted the information on it.

The raw patch to the firmware that transforms the “tethered” jailbreak into an untethered one was released here but it’s not yet packaged up into the PwnageTool or QuickPwn flows. But other threads there are pulling together tutorials and other tips for those ofhere. There’s also a “pen and paper” analysis that helped the hybrid team venture transform the hole into an exploit. Hopefully that will be up for viewing soon too, if only because of its geeky beauty

Anyway, to all those iPod Touch 2G users out there who waited so patiently through all the various incarnations of the jailbreak for Apple’s latest device — welcome to the family!

For the rest of us, the jailbreak “cat and mouse” game will continue in the summer with the next iPhone. And the carrier unlock “cat and mouse” game continues as ever. ”

Interesting. Another iPhone.

Like they said, QuickPwn / PwnageTool have not been updated yet with this new patch. They also include that this exploit is another fatal one, meaning that it will always be vulnerable to Pwnage and cannot be fixed via a software update. But, that doesn’t stop us from doing it ourselves . Be sure to stay tuned, we’ll let you guys know when these tools are updated!

Saurik has released the Cydia Store! The store currently only has one package, Cyntact, which shows contact pictures in multiple apps. Saurik said the store will not be ready for third party repository owners for at least a few weeks, as he is still working this out with how the store runs and operates.

Our developers here at the PwnCenter will be able to submit apps and themes for prices that they set, this will be implemented in the site as soon as Saurik gives us details on how we can use the Cydia Store. Keep in mind that all themes and apps must be approved before they go into Cydia. When we approve your packages we will not only be looking at the content, but also the price, we will not be allowing another “I am rich” scenario, for example, a theme will not be allowed if the developer sets the price as $99.99.

Currently you can pay for apps using Google and Amazon, PayPal support will be coming in the near future. So far most people have said the checkout process was seamless, but some have reported that the transaction failed and now they cant buy the app. Saurik is working on a failed transaction area for people that have had this problem.

Saurik is also setting up a review system in Cydia. Where all apps and themes from any repo can be rated and reviewed for others to see. Saurik is sketchy on the details on how all of this is gonna work, so we dont know much, but the PwnCenter will support ratings and reviews as well as priced apps.

So get your apps and themes that you plan to add to the PwnZone repo ready and when Saurik gives us the info and the site is setup you can get your packages into the Cydia Store!
