iPhone alarm system might help you save your identity and catch robbers!

As many of you already know, a man in Pittsburgh used a MobileMe fonction, find my iphone, to locate and capture the 3 men, who just a few hours before, robbed the man of his credit cards, ID’s and iPhone. This man coordonated police forces to capture the 3 robbers who were already at a Wal-Mart buying electronics with the stolen credit cards. As most of us know, MobileMe is an apple application that allows your iPhone to sync up in real time to a server and backup contacts, calendar dates and other useful information, basically, Apple’s version of an exchange server. But all this comes at a high cost, about 100$ per year for the basic service.

Here, at PwnCenter, have found an alternative solution that will give you a full GPS tracking system that has much more useful options than the MobileMe version without all the sync option on Apple’s servers. Because of Apple’s strict policies, those robbers could have easely escaped capture by simply shutting off the iPhone. Cylay, by iFoneTec, is the jailbreak application that allows full control of the iPhone. This software has useful functions such as: GPS tracking on Google Maps, remote backup to Google or Cylay account, location tracking to alternate mobile (sends coordinates by SMS to a pre-determined mobile phone everytime the iphone changes location), anti-shut-off funtion (prevents the iPhone from being turned off), lock up function (locks phone to prevent user from making calls or accessing homescreen), SMS forwarding (forwards SMS’s to an alternate mobile phone). You can also send messages to the iPhone telling the person you know where they are and in last resort, remotely wipe out all data on the iPhone.

The great thing about this app besides it’s more than reasonnable price of 19.99$ per year, is that it doesn’t have to comply to any Apple policy that greatly improved the actual function of a remote tracking software. I personally have this app on my iPhone 3GS and really don’t regret it. I once lost my iPhone and was able to locate it in my car. This software can also be useful if you usually leave your iPhone on vibration mode and lose it in your house. because you can remotely activate an alarm that will ring at maximum volume until you finally find the phone. This application silently runs in the background and can be activated when you log in to the control panel from the Cylay website.

Thanks A Billion

With the passing days, Apple’s App Store has been racking up downloads on applications, and the pace has been growing. Now Apple turned their 1 billionth download into a celebration.

As the downloads were picking up speed and getting closer to the billion, Apple put up a download counter on their site. They also displayed the counter in the App Store itself; taking place of one of the featured applications’ spots.

On April 23rd at around 5 P.M. EST, the counter reached a billion and the celebration begun. Of course for Apple, celebration means giveaway. So, they gave a $10,000 iTunes gift card, an iPod touch, a Time Capsule and a MacBook Pro to the one billionth downloader, who just happens to be Connor Mulcahey, age 13, of Weston, CT. I could do for just one of those. Congrats, Connor!

And so now Apple “thanks us a billion” from their growing success: the App Store, which in nine months, got over 1 billion application downloads.

Cydia Store!

Saurik has released the Cydia Store! The store currently only has one package, Cyntact, which shows contact pictures in multiple apps. Saurik said the store will not be ready for third party repository owners for at least a few weeks, as he is still working this out with how the store runs and operates.

Our developers here at the PwnCenter will be able to submit apps and themes for prices that they set, this will be implemented in the site as soon as Saurik gives us details on how we can use the Cydia Store. Keep in mind that all themes and apps must be approved before they go into Cydia. When we approve your packages we will not only be looking at the content, but also the price, we will not be allowing another “I am rich” scenario, for example, a theme will not be allowed if the developer sets the price as $99.99.

Currently you can pay for apps using Google and Amazon, PayPal support will be coming in the near future. So far most people have said the checkout process was seamless, but some have reported that the transaction failed and now they cant buy the app. Saurik is working on a failed transaction area for people that have had this problem.

Saurik is also setting up a review system in Cydia. Where all apps and themes from any repo can be rated and reviewed for others to see. Saurik is sketchy on the details on how all of this is gonna work, so we dont know much, but the PwnCenter will support ratings and reviews as well as priced apps.

So get your apps and themes that you plan to add to the PwnZone repo ready and when Saurik gives us the info and the site is setup you can get your packages into the Cydia Store!
